Airlie Beach, the Whitsundays & the Great Barrier Reef
The Whitsundays lay midway along the Queensland coast - a group of 74 Islands in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef and cradled by the calm and sheltered waters of the Coral Sea.
A picturesque coastline of wooded peninsulars, sandy coves and welcoming holiday retreats. There are so many ways to experience the Whitsundays - something for every taste and budget and every visitor can be assured of a great holiday.
Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Whitsundays, a colourful, cosmopolitan and inviting holiday town lying on the shores of a palm fringed beach and overlooking the calm waters of Pioneer Bay dotted with yachts. Airle Beach provides a great base for holiday fun and adventure in the Whitsundays.

1st night in Airlie Beach.. so cool to wake up in the "middle" of the forest with 23290 animals around you @ Magnums

Quiet nice, stayed in girls only dorm, good rates, I think it will be better when they get their new kitchen and TV room, bit boring when it rains.

A group of 5 of us stayed at Magnums for 5 nights, we received 2 of the nights free because we booked our trip with Magnums, when we did get on the boat all the other guests had paid more so it was a pretty good deal, very central, kitchen is a bit small, but there is a sign up saying that a big new kitchen is being built, supposed to open early next month I think. I think Magnumshas the cheapest beds that we could find anyway, The Manager is cool even tho’ she confiscated our alcohol (she only told us 3 times ....C’mon!)

Definitely the most central Hostel in Airlie, Maybe too bloody central! SO close to the nightclubs and shopping, but to be fair the rooms are really quiet and set out in nice garden like surrounds. They seem pretty busy and we had to move out (and sleep on the Beach) on New Years Eve...not bad either!

Good Hostel, they seem to be doing a fair bit of work adding new facilities etc, I stayed in a double when my girlfriend was still in Airlie then moved to a 8 share Dorm, both pretty good value.

I stayed at Magnums recently even tho’ I had recently read a review that a couple of the rooms had bedbugs. BIG Deal, my parents own a backpackers in South Africa and they are constantly trying to get rid of the little unwanted guests, I know it costs them a lot of money.
When I was at Magnums my room was great, clean and pretty cheap compared with what I was paying on my trip up from Sydney.
PS: My parents have stayed at 5 star hotels and found bedbugs, they sure don’t discriminate! Magnums is a pretty cool place and seems to be well maintained.

"An all round great hostel, can't think of anything wrong so i guess they get the 100% for the first time.
We had a double room which was cheaper than dorms in other towns on the East coast and it came with air con and a fridge.
One bit of advice if you are booking a Whitsunday tour with anybody.. make sure they offer a refund if the trip is cancelled due to weather conditions."
