All for a good cause!
Over the years, we have hosted a lot of guests! Some are on holidays, some come for work, others come from just down the road or from the other side of the world... and each of them have a unique story to tell.
Magnums sure attracts some quirky characters at times but we love our Magnums Family! Because of our central location, our great facilities and our parking on-site, we often host guests who are part of a charity.
For example, we recently hosted Erchana, who was running a marathon every day from the top of Australia to the very bottom, all for charity “Cape York to Melbourne”. All proceeds from the Guiness World Record attempt is going straight to The Wilderness Society to help protect endangered Aussie Animals. Erchana stayed with us in October and enjoyed a well-earned rest in one of our spacious queen cabins. Enough time to recharge and soldier on!
This year, we also received a colourful visit from the “Dust Devils”, taking part in the Endeavour Foundation Great Endeavour Rally… and the teams “Redneck Aviation” and “Beech Bums” participating in the Outback Air Race. In 2022, the Outback Air Race raised over $750,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. All these teams enjoyed staying with us, and they sure brightened the landscape with their colourful costumes and bubbly personalities!
Men’s Mental Health is also a cause we support and we were so fortunate to welcome the team of “Ride for Men’s Mental Health when they came and stayed with us for a few days back in 2020. Their challenge in 2020 was to ride from Rockhampton to Airlie Beach. Ride For Men’s Mental Health is a charity helping Beyond Blue. Each year, the boys ride in Queensland to raise awareness about men’s mental health in Australia.
In 2021, they did it again, but sadly going south this time from Rockhampton to the Sunshine Coast. We can’t wait to see what they have in store next and we hopefully will see them again in Airlie Beach!
Weird and wonderful things also happen at Magnums…. Like last year, when we put our Halloween decorations out and a guest asked if he could buy one of our props. We said no, but when he offered $100 for it, we changed our mind! Our amazing team Magnums then decided to donate the money to Animal Rescue Whitsundays who help injured and abandoned pets in our region. Just another day at Magnums Unique Accommodation!
