Proud to be Eco Certified for Eco Tourism
Doing our part to keep the Whitsundays, Australia and the rest of the planet green is a priority at Magnums Accommodation Airlie Beach.
We are all very excited to be able to assure our guests that we officially are a tourism destination set in a natural area that leaves minimal impact on our environment.
This accreditation has definitely changed the way we do things, for the better! See our listing in the Green Travel Guide, published online by Eco Tourism Australia.
Let us show you what we do!
Magnums is set within lush, tropical gardens. Travellers always talk about feeling like being in a tropical forest, but still right in the middle of Airlie Beach.
Over the years, our team has carefully chosen native, hardy and drought tolerant plants, bushes and trees, ensuring they look healthy and green all year round, with minimal maintenance or water. The gardens at Magnums also rely on an elaborate electronic watering system, which helps minimize water waste. For example, gardens beds are watered early in the morning for 15 minutes, to avoid evaporation.
More than 80% of our green waste is recycled. We chip it, and reuse it to mulch our garden beds!
In 2018, Magnums made the decision to invest in solar energy. Solar panels were installed around the resort. This means 29% of our energy needs is provided by our solar panels. Amazing! This is an investment Magnums is proud of. Magnums is also very conscious of how much electricity our air conditioners are producing. Living in North Queensland means that air conditioning is a necessity during the summer months. However, we have all our air conditioners set on timers, according to each season and they get checked regularly by registered electricians.
Magnums Eco Bags
Another way Magnums is working towards less waste is by providing guests with our Magnums eco-friendly bags, available for purchase from the Reception.
Our eco-friendly bags are strong and big enough to carry everything while travelling.
Once a year, our team at Magnums are asked to submit ideas that would improve our guests experience when staying with us, while continuing our effort to leave minimal impact on our environment. A few years ago, we set up our herb garden, which provides fresh herbs to our guests when they are using our brand new renovated kitchen. All staff at Magnums were also given a reusable coffee mug and water bottle, to minimize plastic wastage.
